Hypnosis has a “very real” effect that can be picked up on brain scans, say Hull University researchers. One psychologist said the study backed the theory that hypnosis “primes” the brain to be open to suggestion. Really, that’s what hypnotherapy is all about: suggestion. We call them post hypnotic suggestions and they are given to the client when they are in a trance. That being the case, then what we say to clients is very important. The suggestions have to be positive, healing, strengthening, affirming, encouraging, realistic and appropriate to the client. That way, we ensure that the changes that the client makes as a result of our suggestions are helpful!
